Menopause And Libido: Decreased Sex Drive

Sex DriveChange: As estrogen levels dip during perimenopause, some women find sex painful because their bodies produce less vaginal lubrication.

Menopause is a different process for each woman and occurs at different times in their lives. Women postmenopausal complaints of sexual help are needed. A loss of libido is a pervading effect of menopause.

In other words, the Low Libido and Menopause Connection

Low testosterone and estrogen postmenopausal: Hormonal imbalances in a woman’s body can lead to decreased libido. But first things first-

What Is Menopause?

Menopause is the process where a woman ceases to get her period. Unfortunately, The menstrual cycle is not the only thing Menopause affects and if you are at any age close to menopausal this means it has already started messing with your weight. Symptoms of Menopause are:

Anxiety

Bladder control problems

Depression

Weight gain/ weight loss

Thinning of hair

Difficulty in sleeping

Decreased libido

But not all women need to experience a reduced sex drive. Some postmenopausal women have felt they have got an improved sexual drive. This may be related to anxiety or fear which can be associated with pregnancy making them stress free, as a result they just unwind and enjoy love making however some might engage in sexual practice with their partners.

Menopause And Vaginal Dryness

A drop in the estrogen levels can also cause an imperceptible decrease in blood supply to the vagina. This can affect the-infertility-dry vagina, leading to painful intercourse. However, water-soluble lubricants can be used as a remedy.

Until your doctor verifies that you are no longer ovulating or menopausal, continue this method and condoms with your partner. Condoms are also the fastest way to guarantee against STDsinfections. Hence, it is recommended to have condoms while having sex.

Why Does Menopause Affect Libido?

It is because of this reason menopause inhibits libido.

Blood flow to the vagina decreases and so tissues in the area become thinner, which makes them less receptive of arousal. Sex can also be less enjoyable and even painful because of dryness in your vagina. It could make it hard for you to orgasm.

Fluctuating hormone levels affect a woman’s mental health, reducing libido. Struggles at the job, parenting or familial responsibilities can add to her stress level. You may experience irritation and depression, and dealing with routine matters may seem difficult.

Besides these symptoms, hot flashes, anxiety, sleeping troubles, fatigue, etc. also affect her sexual drive.

Some other factors having said to reduce a woman’s libido during menopause are:

Chronic health disease- diabetes, depression, heart disease, etc.

History of smoking

Low levels of physical activity

Unhealthy lifestyle

Tips For Improving Libido During Menopause

Medical Treatments:

People experiencing vaginal dryness or thinning of tissues can consider undergoing estrogen therapy. As mentioned earlier, they can also use water-soluble lubricants to treat vaginal dryness.

They can directly apply prescription estrogen to the vagina. Or they can take estrogen pills that contain a higher level of hormones. However, this treatment comes with a lot of risks, though they help in reducing the symptoms like anxiety, mood changes, and hot flashes.

People thinking about using hormone replacement therapy should consult with their doctor about all the pros and cons of it.

Changes In Lifestyle:

Water-soluble lubricants to treat vaginal dryness and increasing sexual stimulation can benefit women.

In addition to this, women should consider at least 30-minute exercise or physical activity to keep themselves active. Quitting smoking altogether and avoiding alcohol adds to better health and lifestyle.

Besides these, a healthy balanced diet will enhance the individual’s overall well-being.

Sexual Intimacy With A Partner:

One can foster intimacy with their partner in several ways other than just sexual intercourse. Before we get to those ways, please know that the more openly you talk about your reduced libido, the more ways you can figure it out together. It’s no disease; you don’t become disinterested in your partner just because you don’t feel like having sex. Talk, talk, and talk. Help your partner understand and be open about what works in bed for you.

Now, let’s take a look at some of the ways you can enhance your intimacy with your partner:

Engage in extended periods of foreplay; take time in exploring each other’s bodies and giving each other the pleasure of intimate touch. Engage in sexual activity without the goal of orgasm.

Spend time together by doing either basic or special activities together. For example, you can pick a movie that you both enjoy watching, listen to songs, exercise, or play a game together. You can include a weekend getaway once a month in your schedule or plan some dates together.

Make use of sex toys, vibrators, etc., to enhance intimate pleasure.

You can also consider experimenting with erotic videos, stories, and masturbation.

During menstruation, prostaglandins trigger the uterus to contract, which further helps the uterus shed its lining. It’s painful, and that’s what period cramps are. Period cramps are the dull throbbing pains before or during the onset of the period. It mostly radiates to the lower back, lower abdomen, or upper thighs.

For some people, period cramps/ menstrual cramps can be a mild nuisance, but for some, it can be severe enough to interfere with everyday activities before or during the period.

Menstrual cramps may worsen during the first few days of the period, and the pain may subside afterwards. But if the menstrual cramps continue to worsen throughout the period and it can keep you from school or work, then it’s time for you to speak with your healthcare provider.

What do Period Cramps feel like?

The uterus contracts and relaxes and causes some pain in the lower abdomen. The way it can feel is as follows:

Sharp pain

throbbing/ poking

Tightening like a muscle cramp

Mild stomach ache

Besides menstrual cramps, people may feel the following:

Headaches

Constipation

Loose bowel movements (loose motions)

Vomiting

Nausea

What Causes Menstrual Cramps?

Period cramps are pretty normal during or before the period. However, if the pain gets severe, over-the-counter medicines like ibuprofen help relieve the pain. But if the OTC medicine does not help, there can be underlying causes which are as follows:

1. PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease):

PID is a bacterial infection in the female reproductive organs caused by an STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) such as gonorrhoea and chlamydia. PID can be one of the causes of severe menstrual cramps. Pelvic pain is the most common symptom of PID. Besides this symptom, other symptoms are:

Painful intercourse

Foul-smelling Vaginal Discharge

Spotting between periods

Inflammation during urinating

Fever

2. Cervical Stenosis:

The cervix is the doorway between the vagina and the uterus located at the top of the vagina. In the case of Cervix Stenosis, the cervix is either completely closed or narrow. A person can be born with cervical stenosis.

Cervical stenosis prevents the menstrual blood from exiting the body, making your periods light or irregular. This causes severe menstrual cramps.

3. Uterine Fibroids:

Uterine fibroids are the noncancerous growths inside or outside the uterine walls, which causes pain in the affected area. The size may range from a small kernel to a large mass. Often fibroids may occur without symptoms. But the symptoms may depend upon the size or the location of the fibroids.

Besides menstrual cramps, the other causes of uterine fibroids are:

Leg pain

Pelvic pressure

Lower backache

Heavy periods

Constipation

Increased urination

Pain during intercourse

4. Endometriosis:

A condition that causes the tissue normally lined inside the uterus to form a lining outside the uterus is Endometriosis. It most commonly involves the fallopian tubes, ovaries, bowel, and the tissues lining the pelvis. This disorder causes the following:

Menstrual cramps

Excessive bleeding

Pain during intercourse

Painful periods

Endometriosis may cause fatigue, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, or painful bowel movements during periods. Sometimes, when people seek infertility treatment, they can be diagnosed with Endometriosis.

Also, read- Endometriosis After Menopause

5. PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

PCOS is a common hormone disorder that affects 1 in 10 women of childbearing age. It is a disorder that causes hormonal imbalance and metabolism problems making it troublesome to lose weight and affecting overall appearance.

Common symptoms of PCOS are irregular periods besides the following:

Painful prolonged periods

Weight gain and trouble in losing weight

Thinning of hair or hair loss

Acne

Dark patches on the skin, especially on the neck and the groin.

Besides these causes, severe period cramps are also caused by Adenomyosis, inflammation, etc. To detect the underlying causes of painful menstrual periods, the healthcare provider will likely do a pelvic exam, an ultrasound, a CT Scan, Gynecologic Laparoscopy, etc.

What to do to Relieve the Period Cramps:

Normal period cramps are easier to manage on your own. But in case of severe menstrual cramps, some home remedies may help:

Regular Exercises:

30 minutes of aerobic exercises 3-4 times a week reduces the severity of the menstrual cramps and pains.

Heating Pad:

A heating pad on the lower abdomen provides you relief from the menstrual cramps.

OTC Medication:

OTC pain relievers like Ibuprofen help relieve menstrual cramps if the cramps are not as severe. However, taken a day before the menstrual cramps start, OTC medication may be more effective. Besides this medication, NSAIDs also help relieve menstrual cramps and heavy bleeding.

Stress Management:

Stress has been often linked with menstrual cramps. However, managing the stress with the help of yoga, breathing exercises, light stretching, and doing things that you like to do can help reduce stress.

Quitting Smoke and Alcohol Consumption:

It has been found that people who smoke and consume alcohol regularly have increased risks of experiencing painful menstrual cramps.

Self-Care

Self-care methods, including back massage, abdominal massage, exercise, green tea, and staying in bed with a heating pad on the abdomen, can help lessen the period cramps.

Supplements:

Supplements rich in magnesium, Zinc, Vitamin B1, B6, E, D, agnus castus, and fish oil have been researched and found to help lessen menstrual cramps.

Sex and Orgasms

Sex and Orgasms can help in relieving menstrual cramps. Masturbation, as it has been found in a study, helps with menstrual cramps relief. The pain tolerance goes up owing to the hormones released during sexual excitement.

Bottom Line

Normal menstrual cramps during or before the period can be managed independently. However, if the menstrual pain is severe, seek medical advice from your healthcare provider. They will tell you the medication or the treatment plan after detecting the underlying cause of the severe pain.

It’s natural for young people and teens to want and have sex. But amidst all the fun, precaution is a must. After all, you wouldn’t like an unwanted pregnancy at the age of you embarking on building a career. So, how to get birth control without your parents knowing?

That is the million-dollar question and what we plan on discussing in this post.

Being a teenager is not easy. There are so many things that you have to come across during those years. It can be highly stressful. As high school students or college graduates, we all tend to have sexual feelings and desires.

This is normal because your body hormones keep raging and reaching a point where you feel it is time to give in. So, though you feel you are ready to have sexual intercourse with your partner or special friend, your parents may think otherwise.

Of course, parents have their reasons:

They want you to focus on your career.

Your parents don’t want you to end up with an unwanted pregnancy.

They know and understand that the mistakes you make now may cost you your life.

Parents want to protect you from the sex perpetrators.

They don’t want you to get hurt physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Your parents understand that sexual desires during this age are at an all-time high, but control and carefulness are more important.

But feelings don’t hide, and it gets difficult to suppress your emotions when you are meeting every day either at school or work. However, it’s important that you and your partner have each other’s active verbal consent.

According to research, more than 50% of teenagers in many countries had had sex before they reached 18. The average age as of now is 16 years for both boys and girls. Because they are young and super passionate, they may overlook some important things like- The risk of pregnancy, STDs and STIs, severe medical and health conditions protection, proper sex education, an understanding of many sex-related topics etc.

How to get birth control (without parents knowing)?

While there is nothing wrong with having sex, you may want to use the correct birth control method to avoid pregnancies.

Use condoms or Plan B

The best birth control method without a prescription required is using condoms. This is the best way to get birth control without parents knowing. Many pharmacy shops or medical stores have them. Schools, too, hand out condoms to teenagers to prevent sexually transmitted diseases without encouraging sex.

The pharmacies or medical stores do not require proof of age to sell you condoms. If you are worried about that, you can seek help from an adult friend. Maybe you can request your partner to get it for you.

If you find it difficult going to a medical store to get condoms, you can make use of online drug stores. There is a wide range of condoms and non-prescription birth control. Unfortunately, few of them include internal condoms and dental dams. These may be slightly difficult to find. But you can always bet that you will be able to get condoms anytime.

Using the pill or the IUD prescription birth control

Another way how to get birth control without parents knowing is using the pill. When you want to keep things safe, you may want to use oral contraceptives and IUD.

These are sure shot methods to avoid pregnancy. Now, different countries have different laws on these. It would help if you found out whether your country accepts minors using birth control like these.

For example, in New York, minors need to obtain their parent’s permission. You can visit a clinic to learn how to get birth control without parents knowing about it. Likewise, you can use your parent’s insurance without them knowing by requesting secrecy from the clinic.

Again, all this information doesn’t mean that we encourage teenagers to engage in sexual activity without consent, protection and precaution.

Many clinics worldwide understand the importance of secrecy in these sensitive issues. However, as responsible adults, they tell you everything that you should know.

Why do you need to use birth control?

What is a miscarriage, how the miscarriage blood looks like, types and conditions of miscarriage?

What is Miscarriage?

A miscarriage is defined as the spontaneous loss of the fetus before it is viable, usually before 20 weeks of gestation. A miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of pregnancy due to chromosomal abnormalities, an unhealthy lifestyle, womb structure abnormalities, weakened cervix, underlying health conditions, etc.

Pregnancy loss after 20 weeks is referred to as stillbirth.

In the United States of America, approximately 10% to 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriages.

What Does A Miscarriage Look Like?

Conditions like:

Heavy bleeding to the point of soaking one pad per hour for more than 2 hours.

Severe pain or cramps in the abdomen in waves or the lower back.

Bleeding that lasts longer than 7 days.

Experiencing contractions, and amniotic fluid leakage.

Fever, faintness, or light-headedness,

Bleeding with pain.

There might be signs that you are having a miscarriage. In case of either of these signs and symptoms, see your doctor.

Many women may experience a miscarriage before they know they are pregnant. It may not be obvious to the naked eye when a miscarriage occurs because it may simply look like a heavy period. But this will bring along intense cramping in the abdomen, pelvis, and lower back.

A little spotting is normal during pregnancy, but do speak with your doctor to be sure and safe.

In some miscarriages, the symptoms may not occur at all until you get an ultrasound done. There may not be any morning sickness or tenderness in the breasts.

Miscarriage may also be called ‘spontaneous abortion’. What does a miscarriage look like and what other names are used for it, take a look:

1. Complete Miscarriage:

In the case of a complete miscarriage, all the products of conception leave the body; the embryo is emptied of the uterus and leaves the body. The pain and vaginal bleeding may continue for a few days. You may feel pain similar to labour, which is common- as it is the uterus contracting to empty.

2. Missed Miscarriage:

In this case, the baby has died, but it stays in the uterus. The discharge is brownish, and the symptoms of pregnancy such as morning sickness, tiredness, and nausea tend to fade. Nothing unusual is noticeable. But you may be shocked to have found the baby has died.

3. Incomplete Miscarriage:

Some part of the pregnancy tissue remains in the uterus, but the vaginal bleeding and the cramping shall continue as the uterus tries to empty it. The medical procedure called D&C is dilatation of the cervix, and curettage of the uterus is necessary to remove any remaining pregnancy tissue in the uterus. This medical procedure is performed in the operation theatre.

4. Inevitable Miscarriage:

Inevitable miscarriages may occur after a threatened miscarriage or without warning. During the miscarriage, the cervix opens, and the fetus comes away with vaginal bleeding. The bleeding is more, and the abdomen pain is more severer.

5. Recurrent Miscarriages:

Some women may experience repeated miscarriages- two or three miscarriages in a row. That condition is referred to as Recurrent Miscarriage. If this happens, do consult your doctor for any underlying causes.

While you wait for the pregnancy tissue to empty, you can opt to stay home and rest, or you can go to work if you feel like it. For pain, you can take paracetamol and use sanitary pads instead of tampons if you are bleeding.

What Does Miscarriage Blood Look Like

Although bleeding during pregnancy is a cause for concern, but not always does it indicate a miscarriage. Bleeding may be due to hormonal changes, cervical inflammation, or implantation. Implantation bleeding means that the fertilized egg implants in the lining of the uterus. It may happen before the woman realizes that she is pregnant.

Miscarriage blood may start as a light spotting and increase intensely as the uterus begins to empty. It may also start suddenly and heavily, which usually happens during the second trimester of the pregnancy. Sudden and heavy bleeding during the second trimester happens only in 2% of pregnancies and is not common.

Understand what miscarriage blood looks like:

Miscarriage Blood at 6 weeks

At this time, most women may not see anything to recognise if they have a miscarriage. Bleeding may come in clots with a small sac filled with fluid. The sac contains the products of conception- the baby (about the size of a fingernail), the placenta, and the umbilical cord.

Miscarriage Blood at 8 weeks

The tissue that passes may look dark red. The sac contains the baby (about the size of a bean), and upon looking closely, where the eyes, arms, and legs were forming can be seen.

Miscarriage Blood at 10 weeks

The blood clots passing are dark red and look like jelly. The sac is inside one of the clots. A baby is fully formed at this time with the toes and fingers. The blood clots have a part of the placenta inside them.

Miscarriage Blood at 16-20 weeks.

The women having the miscarriage at 16-20 weeks, often termed as ‘late miscarriage’, will pass the vaginal bleeding in the form of large shiny red clots containing the pregnancy tissues. It is painful and may feel like labour pain. The baby might be fully formed and may fit in your palm.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing that can be done as a treatment for a miscarriage. However, medication or medical procedure D&C can be performed to prevent heavy blood loss or infection.

The pregnancy tissue will pass as the uterus empties itself, which may take up to 3 to 4 weeks.

Winding Up

Finding an answer to the question ‘What does a miscarriage look like’ may not provide you with a happy feeling. And in such a case, there shall take place not only physical changes but also psychological changes. A miscarriage can be both physically and emotionally painful.

While you feel weakness and pain, you also feel various feelings ranging from grief, sadness, and depression. Your body shall recover in a couple of weeks but reach out to someone to talk and grieve.

Avoid unplanned pregnancy with these tips and ways of having protected sexual intercourse.

What is Precum?

Before men reach the climax, fluid is released called pre-ejaculation, commonly known as precum. Precum comes before semen, which may contain live sperm. Now the question arises ‘Can precum cause pregnancy?’

Amanda Kallen, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics, gynaecology, and reproductive sciences at Yale School of Medicine, says, “It just takes one good swimmer.” It is very much possible that if your male partner puts his penis inside your vagina, even for a moment, the sperm in the precum can reach your cervix and fertilise an egg.

Can Precum cause pregnancy?

Yes, precum can cause pregnancy. Precum is an involuntary bodily fluid that comes right before the semen during the climax. It’s true that pre-cum generally does not contain any sperm. But it is very much likely for the sperm to leak into the pre-cum.

Precum is a lubricant that prepares the urethra for ejaculation and acts as a lube during sex. It is possible for sperm to make its way out of the body through pre-cum if the urethra is lubricated enough. Also, the amount of pre-cum released varies from person to person.

And this sperm carrying precum can most likely lead to an unintended pregnancy. But precum alone can not cause pregnancy. How?

Mostly, precum does not contain sperm. Even if the precum enters the vagina, it does not mean that your partner can get pregnant. But your partner’s ovulation plays a significant role in heightening the chances of pregnancy.

Medically, the sperm can stay inside the reproductive tract, alive for as much as five days. And the ovulation begins around the middle of the menstrual cycle, about 14 days before the next period.

If you have sex with your partner for five days, including the day your partner starts to ovulate, it is likely for the possibly leaked sperm into the pre-cum to play its role in your partner’s vagina and cause the pregnancy.

A study found that 17% of the males’ precum carried motile sperms, which makes it highly conceivable once it meets the egg in the Fallopian tube.

Urinating before sex can lessen the precum’s chances of carrying any sperm as it flushes out the leftover semen in the urethra.

The withdrawal method may or may not work in most cases. Pulling out before ejaculation may not always mean that the pre-cum did not enter your partner’s vagina. How often can precum cause pregnancy depends upon the following situations:

If the precum entered the vagina,

If your partner is ovulating,

If you did not urinate before sex.

However, other birth control measurements are taken which can prevent unplanned pregnancy.

How To Avoid Unplanned Pregnancy

Besides male condoms and timely withdrawal (which is not as effective), other emergency contraceptive ways can prevent pregnancy. Take a look at the following ways one can avoid an unintended pregnancy:

1. Hormonal Emergency Pills:

These pills can help in preventing pregnancy after having unprotected sex. If you consume a pill within 72 hours of unprotected sex, the chances of getting pregnant grow dimmer because it delays the ovulation, which means that the mature egg will not be released to get fertilised.

However, like any other hormonal medication, these pills have side effects:

Fatigue

Nausea

Vomiting

Headache

Dizziness, etc.

The emergency contraceptive (EC) pills are available at any local medical store and are relatively reasonable. Also, contraceptives may not protect you against any STDs or STIs.

2. Intrauterine Device

Emergency contraceptives also include the IUDs, commonly known as Copper-T. The IUD reduces the chance of getting pregnant upon having unprotected sex by 99%. It can last up to 10 to 12 years.

To avoid pregnancy, one can get an IUD inserted within five days after unprotected sex. Copper-T is more effective than any other emergency contraceptive measure.

The insertion of an IUD may cost up to $500 to $1000 in the USA. The government has provided it free of cost in India at the government family planning centres. And at private centres, it can cost up to Rs. 500.

3. Diaphragm:

Women have been using diaphragms as a birth control measure for a long time. A diaphragm is a small cup made of silicone or latex that a woman places inside her vagina. This cup blocks the sperm from reaching the egg.

Unlike contraceptive pills, a diaphragm doesn’t interfere with your hormones. If it is placed correctly, you and your partner won’t feel it during sex. However, a diaphragm doesn’t protect against STDs or STIs.

4. Spermicide:

It’s a chemical that inactivates sperms, available at the drugstores or online for you to purchase. You can use spermicide either with diaphragms, condoms or alone. If you are using it alone, you can insert the spermicide close to your cervix at least 10-15 minutes before having sex. It comes in different forms, such as cream, foam, gel, film, or suppositories.

Also read: Are you dealing with pregnancy alone? Know how to move forward!

Winding Up

Upon reading this post, I hope that you may have gotten the answer to the question ‘can precum cause pregnancy?’ To avoid additional headaches, have protected sex, use condoms, or take emergency contraceptive measures.

Know the risks, symptoms, and treatment of endometriosis after menopause.

With therapy, the right foods, medication, and exercise, you can successfully deal with endometriosis after menopause.

Reaching menopause is the most dreaded time for any woman. It makes you feel extremely painful and slightly weird, with your periods stopping once and for all. While the good news is that you do not have to suffer from cramps and severe pain in your back due to periods, menopause comes with its own sets of problems.

Let us read on to find out more about endometriosis after menopause and how you can manage it.

What is Endometriosis after Menopause?

Endometriosis is a tissue on the uterine lining. You can find it growing outside the uterus. Each month some tissue of it starts growing inside.

It is primarily found on the ovaries, the bladder, the bowel, and the recto-vaginal septum.

The problem is that the tissue outside the uterus cannot come outside of your vagina and gets hooked. This causes pain. Besides, you can have inflammation and adhesions too. Problems begin to occur both inside your body and outside your body.

The endometrial tissue requires the estrogen hormone for growth. Since your periods will stop or have stopped entirely, estrogen production in your body is significantly less. For some of you who have had your ovary removed, then your estrogen production is nil.

Though the symptoms come down slightly, the body is capable of producing estrogen. This can add salt to the injury if you want to put it that way. Having endometriosis after menopause can be a complex case to handle.

How can you deal with endometriosis after menopause successfully?

You may need therapy, and symptoms can worsen. The situation depends on how your body condition was before you had menopause. Few women have had mild symptoms that tend to vanish with their menopause.

The symptoms vary from woman to woman. Some might notice sweeping in their urinary tract area or experience fibroids. At the same time, others might see mild changes in their bowel system or digestive area.

Symptoms of Endometriosis

There are two scenarios with endometriosis after menopause. One occurs at an early age for some women. This is when too many doubts tend to creep in, like getting married or having regular sexual intercourse with your partner.

So what are the symptoms?

Heavy Periods or Periods for a longer duration

Killer Cramps

Lower back pain during periods

Pain during pooping and peeing

Vaginal Bleeding during the periods

Diarrhoea

Bloating

Constipation

Nausea

Fatigue

Allergies get worse during your periods

Pain From Endometriosis

As mentioned earlier, pain from endometriosis can be severe, like extremely painful periods- pain in the lower back, legs, belly, pelvic area, etc.

1. Pelvic Pain

Endometrium grows outside your uterus, causing immense pain closest to the uterus- pelvis, reproductive organs, abdomen.

Such is the kind of pain that over-the-counter medicines may not relieve.

2. Back Pain

Besides the pelvic area, the endometrial cells can stick to your lower back. The pain may be severe and felt deep within your body.

It may be difficult to relieve the pain by changing your posture or seeing a physiotherapist or a chiropractor.

3. Leg Pain

Sciatic pain can be described as pain in the back of the thigh and in the lower leg. The leg pain from endometriosis can feel like:

A dull throbbing

A sudden twinge in the leg

A Sharp stinging feeling

It may result in difficulty in walking with ease or standing up quickly.

4. Bowel Movements

Painful bowel movements during endometriosis can result in:

diarrhoea

difficulty in urinating

irritable bowels

constipation, etc.

Imbalanced lifestyle habits can make it worse- consumption of highly processed food, alcohol, red meat, gluten (baked goods, pastries, bread, cereals, packed food, pasta, noodles, beer, etc.)

5. Pain during Sexual Intercourse

Pain from endometriosis can result in Dyspareunia. Penetration and other movements during intercourse can stretch and pull the endometrial growth if it has grown behind the vagina. Pain during intercourse may feel like:

Stabbing

Deep pain in the abdomen

Mild to severe pain

Some may feel the pain during the penetration, and some may feel it after the sexual intercourse.

Endometriosis and Infertility

Endometriosis may cause difficulty in getting pregnant. The growth outside the uterus can affect your fallopian tubes and keep the egg from meeting the sperm.

However, the relation between infertility and endometriosis is debatable. Infertile individuals are 6 to 8 times more likely to have endometriosis.

Endometriosis may also affect uterine implantation.

Can Endometrial Pain be Managed?

The good news is that it can be manageable if you take immediate medical attention, consume proper medication, or have surgery done. Some individuals tend to leave it untreated due to a lack of general awareness by women and health care providers.

However, there is no known cure:

Drugs can treat it effectively, but they may have long-term side effects.

Pregnancy can relieve some of the symptoms, but it’s not the cure.

Surgery can also be effective, but it shall depend upon—The extent of the problem and the surgeon’s skill.

Besides these treatments, hysterectomy, removal of ovaries, and the removal of the endometriosis may be highly effective, but they will result in immediate menopause.

If you talk to women with endometriosis after menopause, they will tell you that it is a painful experience. Some might even say that it is worse than pregnancy. So, we suggest that you get it looked into once you notice pains or feel unwell in your reproductive area.

Take nutritious food and do mild exercises

In the end, it all comes down to how you take care of your health when having endometriosis after menopause. It is manageable, and you can beat the pain that is caused both physically and mentally.

Consume a lot of fruits and vegetables. According to research, women who consume less red meat have less pain and fewer consequences of endometriosis after menopause. So, when you realise that you are hitting menopause, please avoid red meat altogether.

Avoid foods high in trans fat.

Learn more about how it can make endometriosis pain worse.

Which foods should you consume to deal with endometriosis after menopause?

Fibrous Foods:

Fruits like apples, oranges, bananas, berries, spinach, and milk products to a certain extent. Vegetables, legumes, and whole grains will positively affect endometriosis.

Iron-rich foods:

Spinach, kale, broccoli, nuts and seeds, beans, beetroot, dried apricots, etc. Red meat, eggs, and fish contain heme-iron from protein sources. But in the case of endometriosis, the person is recommended to consume foods with non-heme iron from plant-based sources.

Water:

4 to 8-ounce glasses of water- no sugar, caffeine, alcohol, sweeteners, or soda, will aid relieve the endometriosis pain.

Exercises:
