It does not have to burn holes in your pocket either. Here are 15 self-care ideas that will reduce stress, improve your mental and physical health, and give you a new energetic lifestyle.

Self-care ideas:

1. Deep breathing exercises:

I usually counsel deep breathing with my clients when they start to feel stress and anxiety, while on their daily routines. There is no one right way to do these exercises. In this article, we will discuss some of the most effective breathing techniques for reducing anxiety. Relax your body, shoulders and neck, sit comfortably, preferably straight back, inhale via your nose, hold for 2 seconds, exhale through your pursed lips for 4 seconds. Repeat the same 10 times.

2. Mindful Walk:

When you are anxious or stressed, walking is as good for your physical health as it is at lifting your mood. Head outdoors or walk indoors, focus on your steps, and shift your mind to what you’re doing at the moment. Walk mindfully and consciously- notice your breathing, your feet hitting the ground, and your surroundings. You can also play calming music to uplift your mood.

Move slowly and comfortably.

4. Calming Music:

Listening to soothing music or to whatever music my mood asks for is my best form of self-care. I encourage my clients to come up with a playlist of their own that resonates with them the most. It can be as simple as a song playing in the background while driving or journalling, exercising or meditating, cleaning or even reading.

5. Digital detox:

Put down the social media for a while. Disconnect from the phone for at least half hour and up to one hour in a day. Get in touch with the moment you are in. A digital detox not only provides mental clarity but also calms those overwhelmed nerves. For example, you could impose a habit, like, no screen on Sundays, turn off the notifications, limit your screen time for some time each day to rebond with your family and surrounding.

6. Gratitude:

Spend a few minutes every day writing three things that you are grateful for. These can be as tiny as having a good meal or as huge as your family, loved ones, current existence. Get specific about those things, such as “I am thankful for my family” or “I am thankful for talking with my friend today”. Gratitude builds relationships, establishes a positive tone for the morning day and helps you become resilient in adversity.

This is one of the best self-care ideas a person can do, When a person after a while manages to disconnect from work and dedicate time to his creative activity. It could be anything from painting, sketching, sewing, dancing, cooking, photography etc. Always stay connected with what you are best at creatively because that gives you opportunity to express yourself and relieve stress and tap into your imagination.
